Check Maintenance is often overlooked as an area for serious cost controls or dismissed as too hard to analyze. While checks can generally be divided into two major elements, the interrelationships of these and the need for a committed return to service place the direct work and the supply chain in the critical path.

Expedient rather than cost effective decisions often prevail due to conflicting access, robbed parts and shortages which disrupt the planned flow. Increasingly, airlines have become accustomed to what these checks cost (or what they were billed) and with escalation, pricing has become an expectation not a science.
