Warranty Management
‘Warranty’ represents an assurance that an item will last a certain amount of time and that, if this promise or condition is not met, the user will receive appropriate compensation
For airlines and operators this might apply to:
- New aircraft and engines
- Newly purchased rotable equipment and consumables
- Newly repaired rotables
- Exchanged components and rotables
- Other… overarching guarantees that
components will last a prescribed time
Unfortunately the complexities of tracking and registering claims appear to be challenging
for many of the World’s operators
As each new or 'renewed' item enters your operating environment it brings with it a
reasonable expectation that it will deliver on its promise. However, things can
and do go wrong and it could be:
- An exact warranty failure
- A disappointing performance attribute
- A disruptive recall
- An intermittent event or component
The ability to know what, where and whether these are applicable represents knowledge and power and is key to your ability to make substantiated claims on your own behalf.
Objectives of a Warrranty management System
Implementation of a system and methodology, to ensure that every item is tracked throughout
its life within the airline to the point where it is removed for failure, sold or replaced
All of this should ideally be:
- Departmentally independent
- Rational, timely and completely documented
- Full closure and follow-up on all claims and suppliers
Better yet:
- Claims identified and communicated in such a timely fashion that the appropriate supplier can be accurately pre-warned that a warranty consideration is expected
- Elevated supplier respect and compliance toward claims
- Better decision making, strategic and tactical, based on facts and data for evaluation of potential changes in suppliers
EVS' approach to Warranty management
- Minimally invasive transition to a new system
- Uses as much existing information as possible
- Utilises external processing and database coordination to:
- Maximise flexibility
- Minimise airline direct cost
- Airline client is free from internal capital constraints as the system is hosted by EVS.
- Data Availability
- Based on experience and exposure to other airlines and warranty systems EVS is confident that the necessary data already exists to support the required database.
- Increased potential for a simplified, one time absorption by the airline (capability deployment)
- Closely defined hardware/software purchase option
- Closely defined staffing requirement
- Opportunity identification
