Case Study: Damage Reporting System

Engine Maintenance Management Component Solutions Material Recovery Warranty Management Airframe Check Management Damage Reporting

For many reasons aircraft, ground equipment, assets, facilities and personnel are exposed to incidents and accidents that cause damage to some or all of the above. This is often experienced across a wide number of locations, affects multiple departments and communication and data collection can be marred by departmental and other logistical barriers.

The Scenario

Legacy systems currently in place are unable to utilize the benefits of web advances in technology. A major US airline contracted with EVS to provide a trial system to manage such incidents as this was proving difficult to administer and was thought to be losing the airline millions in unfulfilled claims.c

The Situation

EVS personnel participated in a number of employee meetings with a range of departments and functions and developed a core framework supported by a web based application that was independent of internal servers and controls. The system allowed for the upload of documents, statements, miscellaneous receipts and other timeline events into a single on-line folder.

EVS also reviewed the current procedure and suggested several changes to the procedure to reduce confusion and ensure timely initiation of the required collection and coordination activities. Trial use of the system for a major engine failure causing an aircraft return, aircraft damage and a substantial claim was tracked using the trial system and hosted the first pictures of the event for engineering access and system wide review within hours of the event.

The trial system, hosted on EVS hardware and supported by custom software received wide general praise. An incident simulation, conducted over a 2 hour period, allowed over 30 internet connected people to communicate and coordinate an incident recovery program and post all necessary documents and costs to the system with a minimum of training or conflict.

The Conclusion

EVS has enhanced this model based on the trial experience and is able to install the developed system for any operator or airline at very short notice. Training and familiarization is minimal and use and features are transparent to virtually every class of personnel. Advantages are: improved visibility, enhanced coordination, complete cost collection and insurance/third party recovery.
